photoOld leather pillow cover - Niger - Tuareg $250.00
These beautiful, one-of-a-kind, goat leather pillow covers are sold empty but in Africa would be filled with kapok or cotton or millet chaff and used primarily as cushions to support the Tuareg as the relax on their mats on the ground.

photoDecorated amulet enclosure - Niger - Tuareg $225.00
This is an small old leather box with elaborate decoration all over, including a very intricately decorated flap closure. Although most of us would consider it to be useful as a wallet or a small purse, its purpose in Africa is to carry objects with a spiritual value to the wearer. The objects the box contains renders the entire item an amulet, to be worn by men, primarily for protection, worn around the neck as a necklace. Please click on the image to see 2 more similar amulets. They all measure - 10" to 10 1/2", not including the leather thong from which they are hung.

photoElaborate amulet enclosure - Niger - Tuareg $350.00
This is a very elaborate amulet enclosure. Please click on the image for a full necklace view of this beautiful amulet, and of one more, whose price is $300.

photoMultiple bottle amulet - Niger - Wodaabe $300.00
This is an intriguing variety of amulet. No two I have seen are ever the same. The bottles appear to have contained something but if they ever did I have not been able to determine what it was. When I have found these for sale they have always been empty. It is not uncommon that someone selling an item of spiritual value would remove the essential element of its spirituality. Please click on the image for two more views of this fine itme of tribal apparel.

photoLarge leather tassle - Niger - Tuareg $200.00
By itself it is difficult to determine how this was used. It can be attached to dwellings or at the end of cords used to tie horses or camels. It is 12" long. Please click on the image for another view of this unusual Tuareg decorative tassle.
