Djibril statue - Mali - unknown tribe $600.00 This wooden figure, which measures 11" tall, was probably not carved in Africa. Rather it was probably originated somewhere in the Arab world and was traded to West Africa. It was collected in Mali. It represents Djibril, the horse on which Mohammed ascended to heaven.
Woodblock stool - Ivory Coast - unknown tribe $400.00 We are out of stock of these at this moment but more are on the way. These measure between 18 and 24" tall. They are made of very hard, dense wood. They are used as chopping blocks against which other wood is chopped into smaller pieces to burn in cooking fires. As these logs are worn away by ax blows they are turned to distribute the damage more or less evenly around the piece. Then, before the log is severed, it is removed from service and turned on end to be used as a stool. No two are ever identical.
old tall stool - Ivory Coast - unknown tribe $300.00 Stools of this type are found commonly throughout West Africa in the compounds of the villages where the majority of the population lives. This one is an exceptionally well executed example of the genre. It measures 18" tall and 10" in diameter.
